School Reopening Updates: TK-2nd Grade
- SPUSD Board Meeting Tuesday December 15th 6:30pm. Presentations by:
Abigail Silver, District Nurse: School reopening plans and safety
Dr. Kenneth Zangwill: Schools re-opening and rates of transmission
Christiane Gervais, Asst. Superintendent of Instructional Services: Academic progress of students in this school year. - School Site Inspection scheduled for January 7, 2020.
- January 27, 2021 is the tentative return date for preschool special education students, transitional kindergarten, and kindergarten students.
- February 1, 2021 is the tentative return date for students in K-2 Special Day Class, 1st, and 2nd grades.
- Families who previously chose the Distance Learning option for their students will remain in Distance Learning for the remainder of the school year, even after in-person learning resumes.
- AV is prepared with all necessary safety equipment (in classes and around campus) and protocols for students to return.
- AV PTA and Staff are currently working on videos outlining all the necessary safety protocols and guidelines for students/parents when they return to campus.
- All three elementary school principals will host a Parent Town Hall in January to discuss more details of reopening plans.
- At this time, there are no waivers for grades 3-5 or secondary education.

Thank You, Tomato Pie!
Thank you to all our AV families and especially Hunter and Nina Phelan of Tomato Pie for a fabulous Fifth Grade Promotion Fundraiser! Not only did we enjoy great food without having to cook, but we were able to bring in over one thousand dollars in support of our Fifth Graders! Good job eating and supporting AV!

Friday, December 18th is our last Spirit Day of 2020. The theme is Holiday Attire. Dress in the theme/colors of your culture’s winter holiday.

AV Dance Unit: Week 4
Ms. Alison’s Dance Class is underway!

This year, the theme is: Dancing through the Decades. Each week, Ms. Alison will send out a weekly dance tutorial that will end in a virtual flash mob to the song, “Put a Little Love in Your Heart.”

November/December Art Project
Our November / December school wide art project is based on the work of contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Materials will be included with your classroom supply pickup. If you’d like to lead this project as a parent volunteer, please let your teacher know!

Board of Education Meeting date change
The regular Board of Education meeting in December has changed from December 8th to December 15. This change is required to be in compliance with AB 2449, which requires the annual reorganizational meeting and swearing in of Board members to be held after the second Friday after the November elections.
