The association will vote on proposed amendments to the Standing Rules. These amendments include minor updates to rule #14 (Procedure Books); minor updates to the duties described in rules #25 (Historian), #26 (1st VP Ways and Means), #27 (2nd VP Communications), #32 (Community Commerce Chairperson); and updating rule #35 to change the term “Standing Event Coordinators” to “Committee Chairpersons and to change “Cultural LIaison” to the “Equity Committee Chair.  View current approved association standing rules HERE.


New School Reopening Updates: TK-2nd Grade

  • LATEST UPDATE: After closely reviewing the directives, receiving clarification from state officials, and reviewing legal opinions related to the directives, South Pasadena Unified School District must delay reopening for in-person instruction for general education and special education students in grades TK-2 to be compliant with the new regulations. 
  • The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health recently announced that the adjusted case rate is expected to be at or below 25 cases per 100,000 by Tuesday, February 16. Once the county meets this threshold, we anticipate reopening in-person instruction for elementary students in preschool through second grades.

  • Per the new guidance, elementary schools may return to in-person instruction when the county adjusted case rate is under 25 per 100,000 people for 5 consecutive days. Find the most current case rate and data tier information HERE.
  • SPUSD Reopening Plan — Phase 1: On Tuesday, February 9, the School Board will review the new state and county criteria for reopening, including a revised reopening date. Open session of the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and you may view the webcast here.
  • Hybrid Model: 
    TK/K Students – Each AM/PM class will be divided into 2 groups and each group will meet every other day (except Friday) . Group1 AM/PM  Mon/Wed, Group 2 AM/PM Tue/Thur
    AM: 8:00-11:15
    PM: 11:45-3:00
    1st/2nd: Students will be divided into 2 groups (AM/PM) and each group will meet everyday (except Friday).
    AM: 810-10:55
    PM: 11:40 – 2:25
    3rd-5th: Students will divided into 2 groups (AM/PM) and each group will meeting everyday (except Friday)
    AM: – 8:10 – 11:05
    PM: 11:50 – 2:45
    * All Students will have current Friday schedule
  • Families who previously chose the Distance Learning option for their students will remain in Distance Learning for the remainder of the school year, even after in-person learning resumes.
  • How to change your requested learning model:  Please email Renee Rietta, [email protected], with your request by Tuesday, February 10 at 4pm for students in grades TK-2 and Tuesday, February 16 at 4pm for students in grades 3-5.
    * Administration will try best to accommodate all change requests 
    * Any change might require a change in teacher and possibly school. 
  • Reopening plans for subsequent phases including grades three through five will be addressed after students in preschool through second grades successfully return to in-person learning.
  • SPUSD Day Care Program Update: With reopening expected to happen soon, families with students in the SPUSD Day Care Program need to make alternate plans. The last day of the program will be Thursday, February 11, 2021. Please click here for a list of local childcare alternatives.

The Pandemic Resource Guide for SPUSD Families is chock full of useful community resources for families in need of support. Whether you are searching for a therapist, a tutor, or needing assistance with paying bills or securing affordable housing, this guide has you covered. We also have translations available in Spanish, Chinese, and Korean

AV Art Project

Our February/March school wide art project takes a look at the work of 20th century artist Paul Klee. Materials (a slim brown paper bag labeled “Paul Klee Art Project”) should be included in your student’s classroom supply pickup. If you’d like to lead this project as a parent volunteer, please let your teacher know!

AV Dance Unit: Week 6

Ms. Alison’s Dance Class is underway!

Elementary Wellness Classes

The 3 elementary schools are excited to offer Friday wellness classes to all SPUSD students. The classes will be led by Ms. Kristin Pittman, wellness coach, mindfulness educator and Marengo 5th grade teacher. The classes are optional, but a wonderful way for our students to connect with their grade level peers across the district.
