Science Night 

AV Virtual STEM Night was a smashing success! Topics included chemistry and light, the International Space Station, the immune system, and the Thirty Meter Telescope project. Many thanks to AV Parents Evgueniy Lubenov and Jonah Kanner for organizing and hosting the event. Thank you to all of the speakers, and especially JPL engineer and AV Mom Jessica Samuels for her presentation on the Mars Rover.

AV Golden Shoe Adventure: Important Highlights

We are so excited to see all of the families who have registered for the Arroyo Vista Golden Shoe Adventure!  A few important highlights as you get ready for the special event:
  • For those who have registered to participate in the event, you will be receiving a confirmation email by Wednesday, March 17 with important details.
  • You can choose to start your adventure on Saturday, 3/20 or Sunday, 3/21 and complete anytime between 10am and 4pm.  
  • Due to an overwhelming response in participation, we are hoping to spread out the starting times.  We will be sending a link in the confirmation email for you to let us know what time you plan on starting your adventure.

Latest Reopening Updates

  • LATEST UPDATE: At the 2/17 Board Meeting, The Board voted to begin in-person learning for grades 3-5. Grade 4-5 will return on 3/15. This will be a hybrid model. Families have been notified of their cohort on AERIES.

TK-5th Reopening Resources

We are including some resources to keep handy as we bravely go forward into reopening AV.

The School Reopening Playbook includes important protocols and information for a safe return to campus. Please know that the AV staff will work with the community and the children to teach, support, and monitor adherence. Our AV Wildcats are quick learners and we are sure that these new safety procedures will become part of the students’ daily practice. Reviewing this document with your child in advance of our return will be helpful, and as children are naturally inquisitive, we expect that they may have questions.

Return to School Presentation: Dr. Christina Ghaly

Dear AV Community,
At the SPUSD School Board meeting on Tuesday 2/9, Dr. Christina Ghaly, Director of the Department of Health Services (DHS) for Los Angeles County, and a proud SPUSD parent, delivered an informative, reassuring, and data/science-driven presentation about the status of COVID-19 in our community and her thoughts on the safe return to school.  If you missed the live presentation, we highly recommend viewing the recording HERE.  (Dr. Ghaly’s presentation begins at the 8:35 mark.)

 SPUSD Pandemic Resource Guide 

The Pandemic Resource Guide for SPUSD Families is chock full of useful community resources for families in need of support. Whether you are searching for a therapist, a tutor, or needing assistance with paying bills or securing affordable housing, this guide has you covered. We also have translations available in Spanish, Chinese, and Korean

AV Art Project

Our February/March school wide art project takes a look at the work of 20th century artist Paul Klee. Materials (a slim brown paper bag labeled “Paul Klee Art Project”) should be included in your student’s classroom supply pickup. If you’d like to lead this project as a parent volunteer, please let your teacher know!

Elementary Wellness Classes

The 3 elementary schools are excited to offer Friday wellness classes to all SPUSD students. The classes will be led by Ms. Kristin Pittman, wellness coach, mindfulness educator and Marengo 5th grade teacher. The classes are optional, but a wonderful way for our students to connect with their grade level peers across the district.

Classes will begin this Friday, January 8th, at the following times:

10:00-10:30 AM for 2nd & 3rd Grade:

10:30-11:00 AM for TK, K & 1st Grade:

11:00-11:30 AM for 4th & 5th Grade:
