AV Parent Party
The 2020 AV Parent Party went online this year and was a huge success with almost 180 participants! We had fun with trivia games, breakout rooms, and party bags filled with delicious treats from local vendors.
Thank you to Panda Korman, Stella Jang, and Jenn Koca, for their tireless work in producing the event. They couldn’t do it without the help and support of Jaime Thompson, Ryan Dwyer, Jen Wang, Megan Gardener and Karissa Adams. Great job, team!

Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week felt more important than ever this this Pandemic year, and we couldn’t have done it without the help of Charles Do, Afshin Ketabi, and all of our classroom speaker volunteers. Thank you for making our virtual Red Ribbon Week a success and for reminding us to taking care of our bodies and minds.
We were blown away by the amazing creativity and talent at this year’s Reflections contest. Thanks to all of you, we doubled the amount of entries from last year. “The Bright Side” Submissions Extension: 11/2
We are extending submissions to The Bright Side!
Our goal is to receive 10 more submissions for each grade by 11/2.
“The Bright Side,” is a new publication where AV families can share their unique experiences during this unprecedented time.
Please send us your submissions of artwork, photos, writing, recipes, or crafting/how-to-activities that pertain to your time spent staying safe during the Pandemic by NOVEMBER 2.

Include in your email your student’s name & grade, the category for which they are submitting, the submission attachment, and a brief description.Please include high-resolution images if possible (300dpi). Families with multiple children can submit separately or together!
Virtual AV Marketplace 2020 Registration Due 11/9
AV Dance Unit
Who is ready for some good news this month? We’ve got it! Beginning Friday November 6th, our dance teacher Ms. Alison is back with 6 weeks of dance class! This year, the theme is: Dancing through the Decades. Each week, Ms. Alison will send out a weekly dance tutorial that will end in a virtual flash mob to the song, “Put a Little Love in Your Heart.” Click HERE for a sneak-peek video of all the fun to come.
Got Extra Candy?
While AV is not collecting candy for the troops this year through Operation Gratitude, The AV Gives Back committee does have an idea for all of your extra Halloween candy! Take some time with your family and create goody bags for first responders in our community, personalized with a handwritten message. Deliver them at your soonest convenience (maybe on your Monday off!) and don’t forget to tell them AV sent you!

Calavera and Papel Picado Art Project
Try your hand at making a Calavera and Papel Picado! Tutorial videos have been added to the instructions for extra guidance. If your student did not receive an art-supply bundle (either via a classroom pickup or the Art Pickup on 10/2), there are extras available outside the front office at AV during the school day. They are in boxes according to grade level, and we’ve made one per student. Please email your questions to us at, [email protected].
South Board Candidate Interviews
The South Pasadena PTA Programs (at all five schools and Council PTA) and the Special Needs Committee collaborated to host interviews with the school board candidates for 2020.Thanks very much to everyone who offered the questions that were curated for this process.
