Weekly Wildcat – May 8

Happy Mothers Day!

To all those fantastic AV moms out there, we appreciate you!

Snapshot of AV

We want to celebrate learning and growing at Arroyo Vista by providing you with the opportunity to visit your child’s classroom and school campus for a “Snapshot” of your child’s experience this year.  During your Snapshot visit your child will serve as a tour guide as you visit their classroom and then the school campus.  You’ll get to see firsthand where they learn, play, eat, read, and engage in the arts!  As you tour the school, you’ll even get to stop by the Snapshot selfie booth to take a picture with your child.

Please see below for the “Snapshot of AV schedule and be sure to mark your calendar:

AV and SPUSD Teachers of the Year

Recently, faculty and staff at SPUSD schools voted for a Teacher of the Year to represent each school. Congratulations to Arroyo Vista 2nd grade teacher, Nicole Farmarco (pictured on the right), for receiving the honor!
Honored teachers from each school participated in a round of interviews with a panel of former district teachers of the year who selected elementary art teacher, Sarit Swanborn (pictured on the left), as the representative from SPUSD in the Los Angeles County Office of Education Teacher of the Year program. The award recognizes educators who have shown exemplary dedication, compelling classroom practices, positive accomplishments and professional commitment to their students.

Congratulations!

All City Track Meet Recap

Our AV athletes really gave it their all yesterday!  This South Pasadena tradition is truly a fan (and participant) favorite and everyone was so happy to see it return.  Thank you to all of the amazing volunteer parents (about 125 of them!) who gave so much of their time and energy to make this event happen.  We couldn’t do it without you! GO AV!!

Wildcat Adventure Scavenger Hunt Recap

Thank you to all the AV students and families that took part in this year’s Wildcat Adventure Scavenger Hunt. It was a beautiful day, spent exploring the streets and local businesses of South Pasadena, with the highlight being a stop at the fire station and finding a special treasure chest at the end of the route.  A great time was had by all who participated.

Thank you for helping to make our Spring Book Fair a success, raising over $3,000 for our school!! Another BIG Thank You to the teachers and staff who volunteered to read at our Campfire Story Night! We were delighted to see everyone’s faces in-person for story night once again!

Thank you so much to Kelly Kwan and Jenn Koca for organizing this event!

AV PTA Parent Education Recording

Last week the PTA Parent Education Committees at AV, Marengo, and MHS brought you an opportunity to learn and discuss the topic of How to Think About Screentime: Guiding Kids to Build Constructive Relationships with Technology with Devorah Heitner, PhD.
In case you missed Dr. Heitner’s informative Parent Ed Zoom on the 28th, below is a recording of that presentation. Please note that the link is time sensitive and will expire on 5/27.
