PTA End of Year Letter – June 2, 2020

Dear Arroyo Vista Families, Friends, and Staff,

As the PTA reflects on the 2019 – 2020 school year, we agree that it will be a year forever emblazoned in our memories. Although we grieve what we had to miss this year, we cherish all we were able to experience.

AV is more than just a school, we are a community with high standards for education and shared values of kindness, respect, and love. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for everything we have accomplished together including:

  • Movie Night
  • Science Night
  • Parent Party
  • STEM Expo
  • Marketplace
  • All School Sing
  • Dance program
  • AV Gives Back
  • Jog-a-thon
  • Art Happenings
  • Art Reflections
  • Read Across America
  • Book Fair
  • Story Nights
  • Field trips
  • Assemblies
  • Spirit Wear Sales
  • Weekly art-cart
  • Dine AV

While our school doors were still open, we also supported our teachers and staff through countless volunteer hours and generous financial contributions. Because of your generosity we were able to pay for special staff lunches; a new copier machine and office supplies; classroom microphones; playground equipment; and a school mascot—the first in district history!

Given our loyal community, it is not surprising that when the pandemic rocked our world, AV found strength. The PTA responded quickly, creating networks of tech-support for each classroom. We boosted morale by teaming up with Student Council to organize weekly Spirit Days. We deployed Whiskers to join in classroom Zoom-meetings!

Additionally, PTA gave teachers a monetary package for teach-from-home supplies. We also invested in a year-long subscription for Seesaw, an online program for Pre-K through 1st graders and special day classes. PTA also funded text books for the third graders while room parents distributed to all families. And in the last weeks of the school year, our teams made pandemic-friendly adaptations to Staff Appreciation Day and Fifth Grade Promotion activities.

This year is particularly bittersweet because we say goodbye to our beloved Principal Busick, and wish her well as SPMS Principal. Cheryl Busick led AV for nearly 10 years and helped solidify the unique essence that makes our school so special. The strong foundation she built will launch us forward into our next chapter together at AV.

As we head into the summer months, please remember that our kids, parents, and staff are beneficiaries of all the contributions you make–whether monetary donations, shopping on AMAZONSMILE, dining out in SP, or volunteering your time. We appreciate your support as we anticipate harder days ahead. We know we can count on you.

Thank you, families, for creating this special community– more than just a school–for our kids!

Sincerely,

Karissa Adams, PTA President and Megan Gardner, PTA Executive Vice President
