Weekly Wildcat – April 10

AV Movie Night Recap

AV Movie Night was a hit! Hundreds of families filled the courtyard in celebration of our beautiful AV community. We enjoyed an evening filled with carnival games, playing, picnicking, concessions, sing-along and dancing inspired by our feature film, Encanto. The night ended with an impromptu conga line, filled with kids from all grades! It was a night to remember!

Thank you to the 5th grade promotion fundraising team for imagining and staffing a delicious concession stand, and to all of you who joined. Finally, a special thanks to the PTA for supporting family-friendly events, like this, for us all to enjoy.

Thank You to Janis Ortega and Noël Bahamón for chairing the event!

Get Ready for Earth Week 2022

AV PTA will be starting a new tradition to help all AV families be more eco-friendly citizens to help our Planet Earth.

We would love for you to start gathering the following items so you can drop them off at school between Monday, 4/18 and Friday, 4/22 and we will recycle the items for you so they don’t end up in the landfill.

  • Athletic sneakers with holes, etc.-they will be recycled and not donated, so these are the shoes that you would have thrown in the trash
  • Jeans with holes, etc.–  they will be recycled and not donated, so these are jeans that you would have thrown in the trash
  • Batteries– instead of throwing away batteries that no longer work, start a box/container to collect the old batteries and we will recycle them for you.

If you would like to be a part of the Sustainability Committee this year and help us during Earth Week, please email Jennifer Wang and Cristina Kelley

Thank you in advance for helping us keep the planet as green as possible!

It’s time to honor the volunteers who help make our school community special.  Each year the Arroyo Vista PTA recognizes members of the AV community for outstanding service to our youth during the annual Honorary School Service Awards ceremony. These honorees have shown outstanding service to Arroyo Vista outside of routine or assigned responsibilities.

The HSSA Committee is currently seeking nominations of deserving candidates from the community.  If you would like to submit a name for consideration, please complete the form linked below.  Thank you!

Awards may be given in the following three categories, although your nomination does not need to specify which one:

  1. Certificate of Appreciation: Certificates are given to an individual in the PTA, school, or community to recognize their special contribution.
  2. Honorary School Service Award: HSSAs are given to an individual in the PTA, school, or community in special recognition of outstanding service, often over the course of several years.
  3. Continuing School Service Award: CCSAs are given to individuals in the PTA, school, or community for their continued outstanding service, often even after leaving Arroyo Vista.

AV PTA Parent Education

Over the past two years, we have all become one with our devices – we are online for school, work, exercise, catching up with friends and the list goes on. How can we help our kids and ourselves re-learn to socialize in person and to re-engage with the world while still building on the skills and opportunities that our digital connections have made possible during this challenging time?

AV PTA Parent Education is excited to bring you this opportunity to learn and discuss this important topic on Thursday, April 28th at 6:30, via Zoom!

Attend this virtual, live session to hear from expert Dr. Devorah Heitner, author of Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive) in Their Digital World and founder of Raising Digital Natives. Her mission is to cultivate a culture of empathy and social/emotional literacy. Dr. Heitner’s work has appeared in the New York Times, the Washington PostThe Wall Street Journal, and CNN Opinion. She has a PhD in Media/Technology & Society from Northwestern University and has taught at DePaul and Northwestern.
