Weekly Wildcat – December 12

Tomorrow is the Final Day to Shop AV Marketplace!

If you haven’t had the chance to look through the AV Marketplace Digital Catalog and do some shopping, tomorrow is the last day to check it out and support your fellow AV students.
Please visit AV PTA – AV Marketplace to view the catalog.

AV PTA Helps Spice Up Morning Recess!

AV parent volunteers jumped on board to bring art and chess to recess.  Thank you to PTA Art Docents, Erin Bonz and Cassandra Kaldor, for arranging the art activities, and thank you to the numerous parents who helped staff them.  Students were given the opportunity to choose materials for drawing and free art from the “art cart” or to participate in a special fence weaving project that complimented the PTA’s November monthly classroom art project.

Thanks also to Trevor Kwan and Charles Do for leading chess lessons on the playground as well. The students loved it and are really looking forward to another week of both chess and art in January.  Keep an eye out for sign-ups if you’d like to help!

AV Parent Directories for PTA Members

AV Directories were distributed to all PTA members last week.  If you did not get an email with a link to the directory, this most likely means that you are not a PTA member.  Join the PTA HERE and we will send you a copy.   If you didn’t receive one, but you think you are a member, please reach out to Vivan Tran, Membership Chair, at [email protected].  Thank you to Marion Johnson and Alex Zepkowski for volunteering to prepare the directories.

AV Gives Back – December Project

Students in Mr. Fiedler’s and Mrs. Haines’ 4th grade classes did an OUTSTANDING job decorating and filling Birthday Boxes for Foster Youth at Hillsides in support of our December AV Gives Back service project! You can support foster youth and local underserved children by participating in our AV Gives Back Holiday Toy Drive!

Through Sunday, December 19th, families can purchase a gift at The Dinosaur Farm for a child between 5 and 18 years of age, drop it in the collection bin toward the back of the store, and scan the QR code to earn Wildcat Adventure Points and be entered into our monthly raffle. Don’t forget to watch our project video to learn more about foster youth! Video link: https://ptav.org/av-gives-back/#sthash.txI7SuMI.s3CUE8aB.dpbs

For more information, contact Kelly Kwan at [email protected]

Wildcat Adventure All Year Long!

Record your participation at ptav.org/wildcat for the AV Marketplace and AV Gives Back December Projects!  A raffle drawing for December participation will take place on December 22nd, so keep an eye out on Instagram for the winners.  Winners will be notified via email.

What is Social Emotional Learning (SEL)?

SEL – What is it? And why is it Important?

Local South Pasadena parent, Oscar Madrigal, recently explained both clearly and concisely what Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is and why it is so important!  Check out Oscar’s 16 minute video presentation here.

Stay tuned for more opportunities to learn about SEL from your AV PTA!

2nd Grade Parents Needed!

Each month, a different grade will be asked to volunteer to keep our drop-off lanes running. Without volunteers, we will have to close the lanes. December is 2nd grade month! If you are a 2nd grade parent, please, please, please sign up for a day or 3 or 4. We need 4 volunteers per day!   Sign Up HERE.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Megan Gardner, PTA President, or Erik Gammell, PTA Executive Vice President.
