Weekly Wildcat – December 19

AV Marketplace 2021 Recap

Thank you to everyone who shopped the AV Marketplace last week.  Over 1,000 people took a look at the digital catalog to show their support!  We are so proud of all the AV students/business owners who put in so much time and energy to make their businesses come to life.

Between all the AV Marketplace participants, they donated over $350 to various non-profit organizations so far, and we’re still counting…WOW! A special thank you to all those parents who were there every step of the way to make it happen, especially Marketplace Committee Chairs, Stella JangJenn Koca, and Jennifer Wang.

And congratulations to the winners of this year’s AV Marketplace Business Awards!

Most Original Business Award – DOSP Inc. (Owners – Olivia Kalavsky (4th), Grace Dorny (4th) & Cora Kistner (4th))

Best Business Marketing Award – Miss Jessie’s Makers (Owners – Wesley (K), Silvana (K), Theo (1st), Emma (1st), Elvis (1st), Liv (2nd), Isabel (2nd), Ken (2nd), Heet (2nd), Raksa (2nd), Ethan (2nd))

Final Week for AV Gives Back December Project!

Students in Mr. Fiedler’s and Mrs. Haines’ 4th grade classes did an OUTSTANDING job decorating and filling Birthday Boxes for Foster Youth at Hillsides in support of our December AV Gives Back service project! You can support foster youth and local underserved children by participating in our AV Gives Back Holiday Toy Drive!

Through Sunday, December 19th, families can purchase a gift at The Dinosaur Farm for a child between 5 and 18 years of age, drop it in the collection bin toward the back of the store, and scan the QR code to earn Wildcat Adventure Points and be entered into our monthly raffle. Don’t forget to watch our project video to learn more about foster youth! Video link: https://ptav.org/av-gives-back/#sthash.txI7SuMI.s3CUE8aB.dpbs

2022-2023 PTA Executive Board Nominations

The Nominations Committee for the 2022-2023 PTA Executive Board will meet in January to review nominations for Executive Board positions. If you are interested in learning more about the PTA, the Executive Board, or how the nominations process works, please feel free to contact Erik Gammell, PTA Executive Vice President.

AV Parent Directories for PTA Members

AV Directories were distributed to all PTA members last week.  If you did not get an email with a link to the directory, this most likely means that you are not a PTA member.  Join the PTA HERE and we will send you a copy.   If you didn’t receive one, but you think you are a member, please reach out to Vivan Tran, Membership Chair, at [email protected].  Thank you to Marion Johnson and Alex Zepkowski for volunteering to prepare the directories.

What is Social Emotional Learning (SEL)?

SEL – What is it? And why is it Important?

Local South Pasadena parent, Oscar Madrigal, recently explained both clearly and concisely what Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is and why it is so important!  Check out Oscar’s 16 minute video presentation here.

Stay tuned for more opportunities to learn about SEL from your AV PTA!

2nd Grade Parents Needed!

Each month, a different grade will be asked to volunteer to keep our drop-off lanes running. Without volunteers, we will have to close the lanes. December is 2nd grade month! If you are a 2nd grade parent, please, please, please sign up for a day or 3 or 4. We need 4 volunteers per day!   Sign Up HERE.

Do You Have Questions?

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Megan Gardner, PTA President, or Erik Gammell, PTA Executive Vice President.
