Staff Appreciation Week

Arroyo Vista celebrated our amazing staff May 2^nd through 6^th – this year’s Staff Appreciation Week theme was “Appreciation through Self-Care!” We kicked off the week with delicious lobster rolls and clam chowder for staff lunch provided in-kind by The Lobsta Truck – huge thanks to The Lobsta Truck’s owners, AV parents Justin Mi and Jennifer Nguyen, for their generous donation! The staff also enjoyed coffee provided in-kind by Kelly Margrave of Charlie’s Coffee House and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, as well as a bevy of yummy pastries and treats.

Room parents collected parent contributions to provide teachers and all ancillary staff gift cards, as well as organized student-made gifts for the teachers. Cos & Pi provided a scrumptious breakfast taco station, and staff enjoyed on-site massages, funded by the PTA and Mrs. Sinclair. The week ended with a special event for our staff – Music & Mocktails in the courtyard, with beautiful charcuterie boards generously donated by AV parent Heidi Zee and original music written and performed by AV parent Taylor Cleveland.

Huge thanks to everyone who made this week magical for our AV staff – all those mentioned above, plus our wonderful room parents, the many parent volunteers who helped for the week’s activities and events, and especially to Staff Appreciation Committee Chairs, Min Meeker, O’ryan McKinney-Bruskin, and Anna Festa. And of course, thank you to the AV staff for their continued dedication to our kids and community!

Snapshot of AV

We want to celebrate learning and growing at Arroyo Vista by providing you with the opportunity to visit your child’s classroom and school campus for a “Snapshot” of your child’s experience this year. During your Snapshot visit your child will serve as a tour guide as you visit their classroom and then the school campus. You’ll get to see firsthand where they learn, play, eat, read, and engage in the arts! As you tour the school, you’ll even get to stop by the Snapshot selfie booth to take a picture with your child.

AV and SPUSD Teachers of the Year

Recently, faculty and staff at SPUSD schools voted for a Teacher of the Year to represent each school. Congratulations to Arroyo Vista 2nd grade teacher, Nicole Farmarco (pictured on the right), for receiving the honor!

Honored teachers from each school participated in a round of interviews with a panel of former district teachers of the year who selected elementary art teacher, Sarit Swanborn (pictured on the left), as the representative from SPUSD in the Los Angeles County Office of Education Teacher of the Year program. The award recognizes educators who have shown exemplary dedication, compelling classroom practices, positive accomplishments and professional commitment to their students.

AV PTA Parent Education Recording

Last week the PTA Parent Education Committees at AV, Marengo, and MHS brought you an opportunity to learn and discuss the topic of How to Think About Screentime: Guiding Kids to Build Constructive Relationships with Technology with Devorah Heitner, PhD.

2nd Grade Parents Needed!

Each month, a different grade will be asked to volunteer to keep our drop-off lanes running. Without volunteers, we will have to close the lanes. May is 2nd grade month! If you are a 2nd grade parent, please, please, please sign up for a day or 3 or 4. We need 4 volunteers per day! Sign Up HERE.
