AV Celebrates Staff Appreciation Week

The AV PTA celebrated Staff Appreciation Week with a packed schedule of meals, treats, and other ways to say thank you to our incredible staff. Here’s a recap of the week’s festivities:

  • Monday: Lunch was catered by Mendocino Farms, delighting our staff with delicious sandwiches, salads, and desserts.
  • Tuesday: AV families contributed homemade goodies, creating a fabulous dessert bar for everyone to enjoy.
  • Wednesday: Staff savored burritos from Lucky Boy, chosen by our very own Kid-President, Scottie Horton. Classroom gifts, gift cards, as well as handwritten cards from AV families were distributed throughout the day.
  • Thursday: A choice of scrumptious lunches from The Lobsta Truck or a deluxe spread of grazing boards and salads in the lounge…or maybe a little bit of both!
  • Friday: The week concluded with refreshing teas from Teamorrow hand-delivered by volunteers.

This week highlighted not only our fantastic staff but also the incredible support from our AV community. Special thanks to AV parents Justin Mi and Jennifer Nguyen from The Lobsta Truck and Shawn Zhao from Teamorrow for their contributions; we can’t thank them enough for stepping up to the plate and providing such incredible offerings!

We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the room parents who worked tirelessly to collect funds for gift cards and create wonderful gifts – everything from friendship bracelets and photo albums – everyone is so creative! Our community is truly special, and we are grateful for every family that makes it so remarkable. Thank you to our Staff Appreciation Co-Chairs Jamie Lee, Minsun Meeker, and O’ryan McKinney-Bruskin and the many other volunteers who helped make this week a success!

AV Celebrates AAPI Heritage with a Lion Dance Performance

Friday, the AV community came together to enjoy a captivating performance by the Immortals Lion Dance troupe, organized for our 1st through 5th graders. This exciting assembly was arranged by the Equity Committee to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month. The stunning performance featured our very own Raymond Lee from Ms. Carter’s class. The students were thrilled and mesmerized by the spectacular show.

The Lion Dance dates back to the Han Dynasty of 205 BCE to 220 CE in China. It is performed during important cultural and religious festivals to bring good luck and drive away evil spirits. The dance involves intricate movements and is accompanied by the music of cymbals, drums, and gongs. This rich cultural tradition provided our students with a unique and engaging way to learn about and appreciate AAPI heritage.

Providing these experiences is crucial for the Equity Committee’s mission to foster an inclusive and diverse learning environment. Events like this expose our students to different cultural traditions and histories. As we enrich our students’ educational experience, we help them develop a deeper understanding and respect for the diverse world they live in.

A special thank you goes to Danielle Lee and Patti Urzua for their efforts in making this wonderful event happen. Their dedication and hard work ensured that our students could experience this memorable and educational performance.
