AV’s Drought Tolerant Garden Gets a Makeover

It was hot, but AV’s team of dedicated Site Beautification Committee volunteers were a great team.  Over the Thanksgiving break, they got the large succulents out and replaced them with various California native perennials that will attract pollinators all year long!

The Site Beautification Committee is excited to help interested teachers incorporate learning about all the new types of flowers into their curriculums this spring! Thanks especially to staff volunteers, Ms. Roni, Ms. Nina and Leslie Brill, and parent volunteer, Ellie Faustino, and her son, Lazlo for their super hard work.  Most of all, thank you to parents Sally Reynolds and Jason Austin, who lent their expertise to organize the event and who selected and donated all the plants!

AV Teacher of the Year – Sharon Reed!

Congratulations Sharon Reed! Fourth grade teacher, Sharon Reed, was recognized at a recent Board of Education meeting as AV’s 2021 Teacher of the Year.  Each year, one teacher from each school is honored with this title.

Sharon Reed has been teaching since 1991.  During her time at Arroyo Vista, she has taught every grade level.  She is full of dedication and passion, and she loves the craft of teaching.  She has a knack for getting students excited about learning by incorporating many different hands-on activities.

Sharon creates a sense of community in her classroom as well as provides a supportive, collaborative environment for her students.  She loves learning new teaching strategies and incorporating new technologies into lessons to engage the students.  She is also the first to offer help, advice, or share something new she learned with other colleagues.

The students, teachers, and staff at AV are very lucky to have such a dedicated educator.

Tiger Run is Back!
